Daly City Enhances Public Access to Thornton State Beach

In a significant move to uphold public access rights, Daly City officials have dismantled an unpermitted fence that had been obstructing entry to Thornton State Beach. The fence, erected without the necessary permits, extended into public areas and interfered with established coastal access routes.

City Manager Thomas J. Piccolotti emphasized the city’s commitment to restoring public access and addressing safety concerns. The removal of the fence was carried out in coordination with the California Coastal Commission, which supported the city’s actions.

Mayor Glenn Sylvester expressed hope that this action sends a clear message that barriers preventing public access to public areas are unacceptable. The city is dedicated to enforcing the law fairly and responsibly to ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of Thornton State Beach without hindrance.
